BANDS SIGN UP HERE - Earth Day Asheville 2008 Band Application

(Asheville, NC) Earth Day Asheville, a concert event presented by Asheville-based Earth Fare and sponsored by other environmentally-conscious businesses, will feature winning bands chosen by popular vote, as well as an Asheville’s own Designer Fashion Show featuring recycled materials, and an after-concert dance party.

The concert, which will raise funds for earth-friendly projects, is scheduled for April 22 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight at the Orange Peel. The event is being organized by Quality Forward, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate.

Earth Fare, main sponsor of the event, is a health supermarket offering a wide variety of organic, natural and local foods. Sponsorships opportunities are still available.

Winning performers will be chosen from six music genres, including: Jazz/Blues/R&B; Bluegrass/Oldtime; Americana/Country/Singer-songwriter; Latin/World/Reggae; Rock/Funk/Dance; and Electronic. Sponsors of the event will present cash prizes to the winners in each category. Entry forms are available on-line at Earth Day Asheville 2008 Band Application

The event format was selected by Quality Forward because of the organization’s obvious ties to Earth Day in keeping with its mission to create a Clean & Green Asheville and Buncombe County. According to Executive Director Susan Roderick, Quality Forward is hoping that the broad appeal of this event will draw attention to the need for everyone to get involved in preserving our area’s natural resources.

In addition to band entry forms, the Earth Day Asheville web site includes sponsorship opportunities, electronic voting, volunteer opportunities and updated concert information, as well as a listing of other Earth Day events.

Quality Forward, founded in 1973, has been instrumental in enhancing Asheville’s natural beauty and quality of life by planting thousands of trees, beautifying city gateways and neighborhoods, picking up tons of litter from our streets and waterways, and promoting recycling and waste management.
